Dr. Kaila Lavoie

I grew up in a small town in southern Illinois near St. Louis. My passion for veterinary medicine was sparked at a young age by my family’s orange tabby. Hank was a very special cat that would go from chasing animal intruders in our yard to letting my sister and I carry him around the house. As I got older I desperately wanted a dog, and on my 15th birthday my parents finally let me get my old golden retriever, Buster. Buster was an absolutely amazing dog that only increased my drive to pursue veterinary medicine and help save animals.

I went to undergrad at the University of Illinois where I got my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences. During this time, I spent two summers interning at the St. Louis Zoo as well as a summer in South Africa. My free time was spent shadowing at a local small animal clinic. I received my veterinary degree at the University of Missouri. During vet school I spent another summer in South Africa working with local wildlife veterinarians. My love for dogs and cats, however, drove me back toward small animal medicine, and I began working at Care Animal Hospital in 2018.

In my free time I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my 6-month-old Golden Retriever, Oliver, or cuddling on the couch with my cat, Thomas. I also enjoy hiking, watching movies, and curling up with a good book, as well as spending time with family and friends.
