Dr. Kirstyn Heino

Hello and welcome to Care Animal Hospital! Practicing veterinary medicine has been my lifelong goal. I grew up caring for many small animals, including dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, many of which I helped foster and socialize for the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS). When I was 13, I started volunteering at the WHS in its Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, feeding baby birds in its nursery. I then worked my way up to treatment room and ICU care. Prior to college, I was accepted into WHS’s internship program as their youngest intern ever and interned for three summers. During college, I then expanded my veterinary experience at the Milwaukee County Zoo caring for seals and sea lions. I also interned at a number of multiple small and mixed animal veterinary practices. I also assisted with the care of exotics, camelids (llamas and alpacas), and large animals such as horses and dairy cattle. I graduated with honors from Alverno College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry and received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota. My professional interests include small animal and exotic nutrition, internal medicine and preventative care. When not working, I take care of my family’s two shelter dogs, Daisy and Lilly. I also enjoy cooking, swimming, watching movies, gardening and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting you at your next visit!
