On June 27, 2019 the FDA released a status update about the ongoing investigation of the potential link between certain diets and canine dilated cardiomyopathy.
The FDA is not sure what is causing the cardiac disease, but it is mostly associated with grain free foods. They are not sure if it is a part of the mineral mix, or if the nutrients are not being absorbed properly. The FDA is continuing to investigate the potential association.
Our recommendation is that our clients feed a regular, grain food that is from a major manufacturer until this is all sorted out. If you are concerned about the length of time that your pet has been on the food or because of other cardiac disease, we recommend making an appointment.
